‘Let go. Why do you cling to pain? There is nothing
you can do about the wrongs of yesterday. It is
not yours to judge. Why hold on to the very thing
which keeps you from hope and love?’
I was being a little philosophical last week when this thought struck my mind. There will never be a time when life becomes simple, but, there will always be time to practice accepting it as it is. Things become easy to handle if you learn the ‘art’ of letting go. I thought to write about it and here I am!
We’ve all been hurt by another person at some time or another — we were treated badly, trust was broken, hearts were hurt. Sometimes the pain goes in a day or two and sometimes it takes months. We all have faced situations, people, their acts and their words that leave a lasting impact on our mind, that always make us feel uncomfortable and keep hurting us somewhere in the back of our mind. It not only causes us to be unhappy, but can strain or ruin relationships, distract us from work and family and other important things, make us reluctant to open up to new things and people. We get trapped in a cycle of anger and hurt, and miss out on the beauty of life as it happens. Therefore it becomes very essential to learn to let go. We need to be able to forgive, so we can move on and be happy.
Forgetting things is also an art and very important indeed, especially if you are the kind of person who can’t help taking things seriously and mind everything people say about you. As you let go of problems, judgments, frustrations and resentments, you become free to express your authentic self with others and share your true gifts with the world. It’s not easy to walk on the road of life with a bag on your shoulders which is full of useless thoughts, worries and frustrations.
You must realize that you have a choice. It’s totally your decision whether you want to stick to the painful past which you can’t change or move on towards a better future. Don’t worry if your life doesn’t go as you’ve planned; instead learn to accept the life that is waiting for us. If someone says something that hurts you, just let it go and move on!
Forgiving someone is another act which relieves your heart. It is not something we do for others but we do it for ourselves- to feel better and move forward. Compassion dissolves anger. Having a grudge for someone will never allow you to be happy. Forgive and forget. It is difficult at first but if you are determined, nothing is too difficult. Forgive them and move on!
